We had slightly fewer moms than normal today –  I think the crummy weather put some of them off. The kiddies that did arrive were bundled up with jackets, hats & blankets – nothing was getting through there!

Today we were joined by Pat Coombe of The Parent Centre – a very experienced parent & nursery school teacher who shared her thoughts on Positive Parenting with our moms. She was insightful and articulate and her true understanding of small children really shone through. Inspiring lady. I know our moms enjoyed it and the questions and conversations just flowed: everything from how to manage breastfeeding, lack of sleep and missing baby when going back to work, to how to manage bilingual children and their language development. Gentle discipline without harsh punishment, but rather from a place of understanding of your child’s personality and feelings was the message.

No instructions, no lectures – just mothers talking and sharing their experiences. It was awesome. Thanks so much Pat, we’d all love to have you again. Here we are with Pat (yes, that’s me with no shoes, naturally):

Pat & Us

We usually share out second hand baby clothes and goodies at our meetings – this time we did something different.

My mom Linda spent the past week making beautiful gift bags with our new logo. We put out a bunch of newborn goodies, clothes, nappies, blankets and mom’s essentials such as pads etc. Each mom filled a gift bag with her choice, and then wrote a messaged of congratulations and support from herself and her child to another new mom – we then donated all these bags to the Maternity Ward at False Bay Hospital. The Sister there was very excited to receive them and ran off immediately to pop one in to the ambulance with a mom who was being taken off to Groote Schuur as we arrived.

It was great to see that our moms enjoyed GIVING and SHARING with others (who they don’t even know) as much as they did. Fabulous bunch of ladies they are.

And there they are: hope you like them, new moms!
