Just a reminder that we’re having a special meeting this Saturday, 11am False Bay Hospital Hall.
A camera crew from E-TV will be there filming our meeting, interviewing me and perhaps some of the moms. They’re doing a story on the support available for young / teen moms – makes a welcome change from the usual doom and gloom stories of abandoned babies & child support grant abuse.
We’re looking forward to the the chance to tell our own stories in our own voices.
HUGE thanks must go to all at False Bay Hospital, especially Sister Williams in antenatal, Olga in admin, Dr Martell the medical superintendent and even Sidney the linen bank dude & the security staff who help us set up.
False Bay Hospital has been so supportive of our venture and after Nadia’s birth experience this week, it’s even more apparent that False Bay is one of the better state hospitals. When I was struggling to get info out of Groote Schuur regarding Nadia’s condition and labour, Sister Williams even called them to enquire. Everybody’s going out of their way to help us. So grateful.
Last Saturday one of our moms Stephanie & I were interviewed for SABC 2’s Keeping It Real talk show (Nosipho Bele is the awesome presenter – beautiful) on teen pregnancy – every bit of exposure we get helps get our message out there, helps us reach even more moms who otherwise might not hear stories like ours.
The little idea that came to me in the middle of the night last November has taken off, taken over
my head, my heart, my house, my life. Much sooner than I anticipated, we’re getting to the stage where I can no longer manage the work after hours and on weekends – sooner rather than later I have to find a way to afford to do this fulltime without my dayjob salary. Media exposure & recognition is part of that process, I hope.
So once again I gotta ask, please help us spread the word – talk about us, blog, tweet & encourage young moms to join us.
As always, we need you.
As always, thank you.
And now, bed.
PS. Gratuitous pic of Nadia’s newborn baby Carmen. They came home today – both well & happy.
