    Hi there
I was listening to the interview on the radio today. I think it is excellent to provide this kind of support to our daughters. I have an eighteen year old daughter, whom fell pregnant in December. It felt like my world fell apart, when I heard the news. As a parent you have all these high hopes for your children.
After the initial shock, all I want to do now, is give my daughter all the support that I can.
Like you mentioned, it is not the worst thing that can happen to your child.
What worries me the most, is that my daughter is not on Medical Aid and I am terrified by stories I hear about our Public Hospitals. We are discussing with her going the midwife way. Any suggestions?

    Regards,

    Marcus

Hi Marcus, thanks so much for your comment. Well done to you for being there for your daughter. I know that my parents were also shocked, disappointed & afraid. You get through it. She will manage, with your help.
As for the hospital thing – I think it all depends on which you go to. I had my second child (now 9) at a government hospital in Fish Hoek and it was fine. Not great, not luxurious, not particularly friendly, but good enough. Had there been any complications I’m sure I would have been well taken care of. It’s a hit and miss thing though – I know that some hospitals are not good so you’ll have to really do your research and check them out thoroughly. I’ve always loved the midwife idea – definitely something to consider I think. Good luck Grandad, keep in touch! x
